REVIEW: Thirteen Winters by Jay Heron

Some winters never end. But this one might lead them back to love…

Thirteen winters ago, Remi Hendricks and Isaac Williams burned too hot, too fast—and their whirlwind romance in Sweden ended in heartbreak. With an entire ocean between them, it seemed the perfect way to keep the past in the past.

But now, Isaac has just walked into Remi’s Brussels office…as his new boss.

Still reeling from the death of his husband—and the betrayal he uncovered soon after—Remi has no space in his life for old wounds, much less for a man who left him behind. Isaac, determined to act professionally, tries olive branch after olive branch, but Remi isn’t ready to thaw. Until a mandatory conference in Düsseldorf forces them together once more.

As sparks reignite and the truth behind their breakup comes to light, Remi and Isaac find themselves falling all over again. But with company policy strictly forbidding workplace romances—and eyes watching their every move—they’ll have to decide whether love is worth risking everything they’ve built.

Now older, wiser, and a little more scarred, Remi and Isaac have one chance to make things right. Can they finally turn this thirteenth winter into a lasting spring

THE GOOD BITS

After thirteen winters have passed, Remi Hendrinks walks into a meeting with his new boss only to find himself face-to-face with the man who once broke his heart.

Maybe this would have been something that Remi could deal with at once point… maybe if his life were different…but he is already grieving the loss of his husband. He’s grieving a husband who turned out to be a different man than he thought he knew.

And there, in front of Remi is Isaac, the man who shattered his heart and completely changed the trajectory of his life.

Once the two men are forced to spend some time together on a business trip, they begin to uncover things about each other that might change their lives yet again.

Jay Heron has written another moving, emotional and intense story about two men who collided one winter, fell in love then broke apart.

These two characters were very interesting. I think I enjoyed Remi the most because his heart was so big. Despite the amount of hurt he is carrying; Remi continues to care about people and continues to put one foot in front of the other.

Jay’s characters are always complex, and I love the way that they are settled with their emotions. These men feel a lot of things and they’re not afraid to express what they are thinking.

This story is told in two timelines that are thirteen years apart. The past reveals what drew Isaac and Remi to one another, and the present timeline reveals the path to forgiveness.

Remi’s relationship with his sister was a highlight for me.  I don’t have any siblings, and I really enjoyed reading such closeness and support. And don’t even get me started on Remi and his nephew! What a lovely relationship on the page.

I really enjoyed this story. It was touching and had just the right number of reveals
