REVIEW: Worth The Fight (Worth It #2) by C.F. White

It was never going to be just one night. Not when it burned this hot.

Firefighter Reece Morgan is the station flirt. Tattooed, reckless, and always up for a laugh or a hook-up. He’s made a name for himself across Worthbridge, and he’s fine with that. No strings. No drama. No need for more.

Until one heated night in a sauna changes everything.

Trent Lawson thought it would be just sex. One night to forget, to shut off the noise inside his head. But the fire Reece ignites won’t stop burning. Not in his skin. Not in his chest. Not when every emergency throws them back together, stoking something far deeper, and far more dangerous.

Reece isn’t used to caring. Not really. But Trent isn’t just another fling. Behind his sharp tongue and cool control, Reece sees the exhaustion, the cracks, the way Trent’s numbing himself with all the wrong things. And for once, Reece doesn’t want to walk away. He wants to fight. For Trent. For every kiss denied and every glance that means too much.

But when the flames turn deadly and the danger hits close to home, Trent must face the past he’s been running from and decide if Reece is the one thing worth stepping into the fire for.

Because in Worthbridge, sparks are flying.

And some flames are worth the fight.

Worth the Fight is the second book in the Worth It series, a gritty MM romance series set in a small coastal town featuring first responders entangled in a criminal case that threatens the community they serve and the people they love.

THE GOOD BITS

If you’ve been around for a while, then you know that I love C.F. White’s writing. I have read every series and every book. I was delighted when I found out she would be writing this new series.

The Worth It series focuses on main characters who must fight for the person they want in their life. These aren’t simple characters. They are complex and flawed and I always know I’m going to grow to love them.

Reese Morgan is a firefighter with a bit of a reputation for playing free and hard. He’s also great at his job, arguably he found his calling.

Then one night he has a hook up with paramedic, Trent Lawson. In an odd twist of events though – both men find themselves unable to break free of what should have been a casual relationship for them both.

Both men have troubled pasts and have faced trauma that no one should have to learn to live with. Both Trent and Reese are driven to constantly prove themselves because of guilt they feel. They’re two very different men – have experienced very different things but they are drawn together.

The first time Reese and Trent meet on a rescue, they feel something special… a bond, something that defies description. It’s not going to be easy though because both characters have built walls to keep their demons at bay. They’ve built walls that are hard even for first responders to scale.

This is a super interesting story. I was thrilled to find two characters with rich backgrounds. I was curious about Reese from his first appearance in book one of this series. As the layers and assumptions were peeled away I enjoyed the way White brought these characters to life with rich and captivating histories.

I was rooting for Reese and Trent from my first introduction to them and this story didn’t disappoint. There are some very intense scene; one had me on the edge of my seat and then in tears! (And I love a good cry when I’m reading).

It’s always a pleasure for me when characters from past books make an appearance and that happens in this book. Book one’s Freddie, Nathan and Alfie all have a role to play in book two!
