Their love was forged in shadows. Now the darkness wants to tear them apart.
Aaron Jones was never meant to fall in love. Especially not with Dr Kenneth Lyons, not only his professor but also the criminal psychologist who helped profile his parents. But Kenny sees through his defences, kisses past the pain, and touches him like he’s precious. Their affair is illicit, addictive, and laced with secrets, and Aaron can’t stay away. Even when he knows it could ruin them both.
Kenny built his life on discipline and distance, maintaining the careful balance between his dark fascinations and the polished mask he wears for the world. But Aaron shatters all of it. He’s beautiful, reckless, and far too dangerous to want. Kenny’s already too far gone, having crossed every line. And now he’ll burn the world to keep him.
But someone wants to tear them apart.
A new predator is lurking in the shadows. One who knows the darkest corners of Aaron’s past, the secrets he keeps even from Kenny. And this killer isn’t just hunting victims; they’re playing a game. A game where Aaron is the prize, and Kenny is the target.
As bodies drop and the past claws its way back, Aaron and Kenny are dragged into a deadly spiral of obsession, guilt, and need. Because loving each other was never the plan.
But now it’s the only thing keeping them alive.
Killing Me Softly is the breathtaking conclusion to the To Love a Psycho trilogy. A story of love defying the rules, of madness and desire, of a bond that might just be as dangerous as the darkness closing in.

THE GOOD BITS
The Contemporary MM Romance genre is a vibrant and diverse community of authors and readers. The books I like to read are the ones that have a compelling and engaging plot, a believable and enticing relationship, and are well crafted.
This series is truly exceptional, and I’ve never approached a book with such a mix of dread and enthusiasm! I knew going in that C.F. White wasn’t going to hold back. She has given these characters such a buildup… I knew that the end was going to be traumatic. Let me tell you, this one left a mark.
In this final book of the trilogy (although there’s certainly potential for there to be more) Dr. Kenneth Lyons is faced with the consequences of the choices he has made. Throughout the first two books Kenny has tried and failed to set boundaries with his student and love-interest, Aaron. The problem is that it is undeniable that these two men belong together. Despite the many differences between them the attraction between them is unquestionable from the first moment they share the page.
The world of academia is catching up with what’s been going on behind the scenes in Kenny’s life and it’s all about to explode. While his professional life is unravelling, there’s a terrifying threat lurking in the shadows. White has crafted a stunning tale that will draw you in and take you on an intense roller coaster ride.
The “To Love a Psycho” series by C.F. White is everything I love about this genre. I do have to say, while there is a lot of spice in these books, the connection between the characters is so much more than that.
The MCs Aaron and Kenny have so much chemistry from the very first moment they meet. I feel as though I have been along with these two as they met, got to know each other, questioned what they were doing…and a hundred other things I can’t tell you without spoiling the story. These two men are on a shared journey and it’s not clear if they’ll end up at the same destination.
It’s rare for me to connect with characters so thoroughly that I become emotional, but this is an affecting series, and I was completely caught up in it. Kenny and Aaron are very different and yet so drawn to one another. Much of what happens between them is shaped by their complicated pasts and the ways their lives have become intertwined. The way these characters get to know one another throughout the story was a pleasure to read. At times it was a slow and gentle reveal, at others it was shocking and sudden. I felt very much as though I was watching their relationship in real time.
There are so many connections and themes in this series. White explores the parent/child relationship, friends, ex-lovers who are still in someone’s life, dynamics of siblings and the way ex-partners fit into our lives. She delves into the nature versus nurture debate and into the many ways that trauma can manifest in our personalities.
There are no supporting characters in these books; they are all fully fleshed out. Everyone who is introduced is vital to the forward motion of the story. Mel is an amazing friend and through her we see facets of Aaron’s personality that are unique to their friendship. Kenny’s ex, Jack and his new partner Fraser allow the reader to peel away some of the more subtle layers of Kenny’s personality. The relationship between Jack and Kenny is another one that evolves as the story unfurls. While Jack is the main law enforcement character in the novels, he also has a bit of a role to play as a bridge between Aaron and Kenny when they are both vulnerable and their defenses are up. The fact that I love the supporting characters is all due to White’s writing style.
I have a background in psychology and the behavioral psychology and analysis in the books is solid. White has done a lot of work to create a world that rings true.
I’m not even sure how to describe the pacing in these novels. White has a talent for revealing just enough so that I can have my pearl clutching moments. Some of the reveals were torturously painful and some were a real shock to me and that’s always a lovely thing in such a complex story. This final book, in particular, was impossible for me to put down. I’m not exaggerating – I actually hid my kobo in my work notebook so I could read that last few chapters.
I was shocked a few times, I cried, I was really touched… Aaron and Kenny have taken up permanent residence in my heart. LOVED THIS SERIES.
