REVIEW: Highland Fling by C.F. White

Can a Highland fling stir a lifelong passion into lasting love?Dean Fraser has his eyes on the prize. Determined to prove his worth as a chef after injury cost him his career in football, he’s fighting for a coveted place at Castle Largleith in the Scottish Highlands to train under his hero. The job could change his entire life and prevent him from spiralling back to the drink after yet another betrayal by his serial cheating boyfriend.

Bereaved and broken, hot-headed Scottish chef Ewan Grant is saying goodbye to the career that lost him his lover. He’ll be retiring from his Michelin starred restaurant he built from the ground up to finish his deceased partner’s bucket list in the hope to appease the suffocating guilt eating away at his life’s passion. When Ewan invites a string of cooks to compete for a place on his chef team, he didn’t expect his dwindling appetite to be refuelled. Especially not for the rough charm of the underdog whose unlikely talent for the culinary arts stirs up a storm for his classically trained competitors.

His overwhelming attraction to Dean is reciprocated and their encounters burn hotter than the grill plate during a full service, but acting on it could ruin Ewan’s reputation and lose Dean the chance at the job of a lifetime.

With neither strong enough to keep away, their forbidden whirlwind affair threatens everything they both want and desperately need. But how can something so treacherously wrong taste so deliciously right?

Highland Fling (Flying into Love #6) is a contemporary, age gap, forbidden lovers MM romance featuring a fiery Scottish chef too used to his own way and determined Essex footballer desperate to prove he’s more than face value.

THE GOOD BITS

Highland Fling is part 6 of the “Flying Into Love” series by @c.f.whiteauthor and it’s GREAT! I began reading in the morning and ended up sneak reading at work because I didn’t want to put it down.

During a night of drinking, Dean Fraser applies for an elite Chef’s competition. Elise in that it actually involves taken over a Class A restaurants in a Scottish castle.

In spite of the fact that Dean expects to fail at any moment, he heads off leaving behind an ex he knows isn’t good for him and a family that’s relying on him.

What Dean isn’t expecting is Scottish Chef and castle owner, Ewan Grant. There’s immediate chemistry between the two men – of course totally inappropriate given the completion. And both men have pasts that don’t make new possibilities something they are inclined to explore.

The chemistry is off the charts in this book… it’s something that White is always good at but good GRIEF this book sizzles.

I really enjoyed the way each of the main characters had complex and touching pasts… the book actually brought tears to my eyes a couple of times.

This is a wonderful book to look forward to – coming out at the end of the month!
